April 16 Field Fixes
Later in the day, we ran into a no-cool call that turned out to be doing the exact opposite—heating instead of cooling, and the house was pushing 90°. Digging in, it was clear the issue was electrical—a short in the thermostat wire, classic. Swapped over to an unused wire in the run and got everything behaving the way it should.
Before I left, I gave the system a quick health check and found a weak capacitor on its way out. Took care of that too—no sense in making them call us again for something that’s about to fail.
Two jobs, two happy homes, and another solid day in the books. HVAC life never slows down, but we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Even had a little friend oversee my work.

After we had a no cool call, or rather, a heat rather than cool call. Customer reports that their home got over 90 degrees while in cool mode. While diagnosing the issue, it got me thinking about how heat pumps can get a little confusing for new guys especially when you’re looking for a short. Which turned out to be the issue, was able to swap to an unused wire in the run and get them cooling. As always, I checked key components to ensure they wouldn’t have any more surprises, and sure enough the capacitor was weak and needed replacement. Pretty chill day.
