First call of the day was a simple one—had to replace some thermostat wire between the stat and the air handler. Got lucky this time; the run was short and easy to get to, so we were in and out pretty quick.
Second stop was a couple who were worried about their heat strips pulling too much power. Someone from the electric company told them the draw was high. Checked everything out and explained that electric heat strips just naturally pull a lot of amps—especially with two strips per circuit, it’s normal to see 40 to 60 amps during a heating cycle. Nothing dangerous, just how those systems are built.
Still, we helped them out by installing a 2-stage thermostat so the system won’t fire up everything at once unless it really needs to. That should cut down their draw on milder days and help with energy costs too.
Wrapped up a few other small calls, but then we got a serious one—a confirmed gas leak in an air handler, and the customer had a newborn coming home that same day. Gas company had already shut the valve off, so they were stuck without heat.
We headed straight over. Tracked it down to a supply hose—got it swapped, tested everything for leaks, and had the heat back on with time to spare. Wasn’t gonna let them get home to a cold house.
